Naked Geometry is art and jewelry inspired by mathematics and nature. All of our woodwork is created in Pittsburgh community maker-spaces from sustainable materials, using a combination of laser cutting and traditional craft. The hardwood we use is either reclaimed, dead-fall, or ethically sourced. The plywood we use is LEED, F.S.C.-certified or better. Our findings and chains are nickel-free. Our cords are waxed cotton. All geometric art and design is created in-house by a small team of eccentrics.
My favorite star-tiling is this arrangement of perfect 4, 6 and 8-sided stars and slightly irregular 5 and 7-sided stars. This pattern can be connected to itself to infinitely “tile the plane” with 4, 5, 6, 7, and 8! I leave the initial grid in as a very tiny, very thin line both as a decoration and as a bit of the math for those who are curious as to how it’s constructed. A novel tiling created in a classic Islamic Star-motif, this new pendant has been a favorite over my summer shows.
