Naked Geometry is art and jewelry inspired by mathematics and nature. All of our woodwork is created in Pittsburgh community maker-spaces from sustainable materials, using a combination of laser cutting and traditional craft. The hardwood we use is either reclaimed, dead-fall, or ethically sourced. The plywood we use is LEED, F.S.C.-certified or better. Our findings and chains are nickel-free. Our cords are waxed cotton. All geometric art and design is created in-house by a small team of eccentrics.
Star Magic
$200.00
This four-layer birch piece is a meditation on aperiodic tiling and traditional Islamic star geometry. It’s a smaller version of “Wooden Magic”, a one of a kind piece made for President Obama’s visit to our shop.
It’s a twelve-sided symmetry, expressed in an aperiodic tiling, layered with a sub-grid and a traditional Islamic star knotwork. From different angles it can appear both airy and also complex.
It is beautiful with light through it, recommended to hang in a window, or against a brightly colored wall.
Approximately 11 inches wide, held together with 4 tiny stainless steel bolts.
My favorite layered piece so far!
